I Heart Lymbyc Sysytm

Posted Saturday, September 6, 2008

On Friday, September 5th, I went to go see Lymbyc Systym at the Jackpot in Lawrence. They're one of my favorite groups.

Brothers Jared and Michael Bell compose the electronic/instrumental duo that is Lymbyc Systym. Jared (keyboards) was gracious enough to give an interview (down below). In addition to letting us in on their music, how the tour is going, and what's next for the band, I was pleased to learn that they're so well received in the Midwest (especially in places like Lawrence). Most Midwestern stops on their tour seem to be really keen to electronic music.

One of the reasons I'm so drawn to this group is because while most electronic/instrumental acts try to make something "epic," as Jared calls it (a nice way of saying 18-minute tracks), it can sometime lose you in a live show. Lymbyc Systym's music is a little more user friendly, limiting themselves to four-ish minute songs. That way there's a focus, a "story" with each track. Check out their music on their MySpace.

It's no secret that I have a soft spot for percussionists (I used to be one). So you can imagine my squeals of delight when watching this duo. Michael is perhaps one of my favorite percussionists ever. You'll see in the clip, he definitely keeps himself busy onstage. Watch him rock out towards the end of the clip.

Enjoy!
