Here's my baby chilling with her favorite sci-fi series, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
We both love it when Spike TV runs Star Trek episodes on week days. Very convenient and fun for the whole family.
And our family has a new obsession, Katamari.
It's all about some odd shaped royal dude - who rolls a big ball around and rolls odd items into the ball - from pencils to butterflies to royal cousins. Then the king tosses the lumpy collection up into the cosmos and it becomes a new celestial being.
My honey bought a PS2 last week. And this week he picked up Katamari Damacy. Now, we're playing Katamari before breakfast, before dinner... and now. Fally told me about the game last fall. After one round in a goofy little house, we were hooked. Kitschy music that sounds like Shibuya-pop and pretty graphics. Plus, it's too damn easy to play.
We eventually peeled ourselves away from the TV and our game system. We managed to hop in the car and head outside for food and good times.

We did dinner at O'Dooley's the other night. The bar features live Irish music on Fridays... and the crowd joins in with hoots, refrains and to-the-beat clapping. It sounded like the "Irish Rebel" indulged in some American pub tunes as well. I ordered Guinness for my appetizer. For my main dish, I had an Irish Boxty with steak and mushrooms. The steak is slathered in a super-rich sauce. It's all wrapped up in a potato pancake - which helps soak up the dense flavors. Speaking of beer... Forbes has some good news for coffee drinkers who like to drink alcohol. Of course, everything in moderation.
On Saturday, we headed back to Lawrence to buy more games for PS2. At Game Guy on 7th Street... we ogled Playstation titles and took some games on a test drive. I felt like I was back in high school, getting all geeked about Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis. I remember hooking up audio out cables on the TV to my tape player and recording the game soundtrack. Then I drove my mom nuts playing the quirky electronic music at full blast in the living room. Good times. Good game.
Later, we checked out new and used books at the Dusty Bookshelf.

We met this feline fan of the written word in the religious section.

I am also addicted to the Latin American food at La Parilla on Massachusetts. On another weekend, when it felt like 100 degrees outside, we cooled down with yummy Mojitos. Then, I ordered this cold appetizer, ceviche a la veracruzana. The red snapper and baby shrimp is basically served raw. The cooking process takes place when the chilled seafood sits and marinates in citrus acid juices. This tasty dish serves up the seafood with lime juice, tomatoes, jalapenos, onion, cilantro and avocado slices.
On Saturday night, we plowed through the hard rainfall on I-70 to catch live music at the Jackpot Saloon. Nudity from Olympia, Washington, kicked off the night with a loud, psychedelic set. Their music sounded like a hyper-active homage to Jimi Hendrix.

Then Lawrence indie pop-darlings Aubrey took the stage. I picked up their latest CD, "Honey and the Shame," at another concert. They sound fantastic live - great guitar work, beautiful keyboard harmonies and catchy beats. I also love vocals by Jon Ulasien and Jaime Netzer.

And finally....our morning crew once again proves that BBQ is a great idea for breakfast. Here, we're hanging with Gary Barta from the Texas Roadhouse on our GMK patio. He made some very tasty ribs for the show.

Good Lord! You and your timing! I just bought "We love Katamari," or as I like to call it: "We heart Katamari."
Eventually I will have to buy my own playstation when we move out and will no longer get to leech off of the roommate's.
By the way, the fan art (especially the cake) on the katamari web site is insane. Very fun if you're into that crazy cute Japanese stuff.
