The games we play...

Before my graveyard shifts, I managed to squeeze in happy hour and a softball game. A few months ago, our news team played a game at the Expocentre.
There are parallels between a ball game and a news show. For both, you need team work, communication and a game plan.
During our morning show, the softball is the camera lens....first the news anchor has the ball at the desk...and when she gets to weather - she tosses the ball to the next base at the weather center. Tossing the ball back and forth between elements of the show - and weaving in hard news, human interest stories and on-air personalities - we do all that for the sake of the game we call broadcast news.
Behind the producer's desk - we have a coach who has a strategy for the show. She's coordinating the plays for each inning between commercial breaks - from timing stories, to counting down weather and interviews. The AP works the shortstop position - making sure our bases are covered on breaking news from the scanner, wires or the phone. The show director is the catcher and the pitcher. He knows what's possible for show segments and he catches foul balls on bad video and hot mics. He also knows what pitches to throw to work the cameras and frame-up people at the desk for the best possible shot- ever.
It's a fun game and it makes me hungry.
After one of our morning shows, I headed to Paisano's Ristorante for an early lunch. I enjoyed the cozy booths and the mood lighting that blocked out the harsh noon sun. We filled up on bread sticks and salad and I barely made it through my pasta dish. My dish had tomato vodka cream sauce, fettuccine noodles and portabello mushrooms. It tasted cheesy, rich and yummy when sopped up with the bread sticks.

I also made room for this cannoli. Sweet, cool and dusted off with pistachios.
Between my morning games and hearty lunches, I need to figure out when I can fit in some time at the gym.
How do you balance work, play and attempt to practice a healthy lifestyle?

I hear ya! I keep telling myself that I'm going to spend my lunch hour at the gym, that has YET to happen! Then some people like to bring fattening goodies to the newsroom for all of us to enjoy =)

How do you balance work, and attempt a healthy lifestyle? Very hard...At least I'm having a difficult time.
I work early everyday, wake up before 3:00 am, sometimes before 2:00 am, and stay up to 4:00pm sometimes up to 5:00 pm.
It's not a hard work and I can sit if I want to in my office while reading EM's and make reports and then go out to the plant to supervise people.
But I develop this habit of having snacks in the extra table in my office and most of the time my co-workers are helping me out and I'm using these cookies and junks to wake me up, not to mention the cups of coffee and switching to tea by about 9:00 am.
In short...not good.
By weekend, I try to go to health club and do a few minutes of tread mill and a couple of laps in the pool.
And then eat my heart out again during dinner time because the wine always give me a good appetite..
Then weekend is over before I know it.
Boy..what a cycle...
Few days ago, my doctor told me that my sugar level is close to the border line...I think I better stop on snacking during working...........Did I answer your question? Guess not.
Anyway you guys are young....enjoy...life is short.

Very nice analogy... makes me think of my job in a whole different light! Keep up the good work, coach!
