European Flavors

Posted Sunday, September 9, 2007

We kicked off our anniversary weekend at the New City Cafe in Topeka. I’ve heard good things about its upscale, American fusion cuisine. Even Marci Penner had good things to say about this intimate spot nestled in the Gage Center. I started off the meal with a Limoncella Martini.

Back in Italy, I couldn’t get enough of this sweet liquor. It was lovely to lemon-tinged drink and the flavor reminds me of our European adventure.

We had this Lobster Ravioli: Large pillows of pasta stuffed with cheese and lobster. Quite tasty.

After New City Cafe, we checked out a U2 Tribute Band at Juls. Rattle and Hum's frontman did a nice Bono.

Last weekend, we stopped by the Irish Festival in Kansas City.

Plenty of Boulevard Stout to satisfy our Guinness cravings....plus other Irish goodies.

My hubby ordered this sausage roll. The flaky crust was a nice balance to the savory meat.

We also stopped by the Brasserie Bar at the Westin Crown Center to watch my California Bears knock down Tennessee. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and escargot. I enjoyed the garlic butter sauce on the meaty snails. We ended up soaking bread pieces in the sauce.

The Irish Festival also had some fun live music. As the Glengary Bhoys served up a few rowdy jigs, kids get out of their seats and doing céilí dancing. You can see two of them in the top right-hand corner of this video.
