Spantgos is the founder of Paranormal Research Investigators. He has investigated about 166 locations, over 30 of which were Topeka businesses such as the Blind Tiger and the Brickbarn and Inn. He has helped out Ghost Tours of Kansas. His investigations follow strict protocol and use scientific equipment from night vision cameras to weather data logging equipment.

Spantgos is able to answer any questions you may have about the paranormal from investigation procedures to local haunts.

What is the scariest thing you've personally encountered on one of your investigations? Why was it so scary?

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 3:07 p.m.

Nothing has ever been scarey while investigating, however sometimes things are more shocking. One example is when my co-Founder of my group Keith Ross and I were the only two people investigating in this private home. I said "my name is Nick and this is my friend Keith, what is your name? We were hoping to get an EVP on our digital audio recorders, however at that moment we heard a voice outload say the name "Joe" and it was very loud. We were not scared, however it was def. SHOCKING!

What is white noise, and is it truly ghosts?

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 3:12 p.m.

white noise is a technique some people use to try to gather something called EVP or electronic voice phenomena. It is a non repeating sound that is suppose to enhance capturing an EVP, however from my experience this has not helped in capturing any scientific evidence.

"Paranormal Activities" is making waves at the box office. How much does that movie get right or wrong by what your research has shown you to be true of hauntings?

You know you know it is a hollywood movie and it features a style a Demonic Haunting. The movie did highlight the usual features of a demonic haunting such as emotional control, violent actions, and foul smell. However, I have been investigating the paranormal for a very long time and have never encountered this style of haunting. Typically either a residual or intelligent style haunting is the most common. The movie was entertaining as long as most people realize that it is just a story and a demonic or inhuman stlye of haunting is very very rare.

How does the weather data logging equipment help in an investigation?

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 3:23 p.m.

Typically it does not help the client out while investigating like other equipment such as recorders and camcorders, however the PRI team and I focuses more on the scientific side and research side of the paranormal.

The focus on weather data logging equipment is to find trends and data sets to see what weather factors are involved with the paranoomal activity. Temperature, humidity, barometric pressure are the main focus on this aspect. Over our last 100 or so investigatings we have gathered some data sets that are trending that barometric pressure does play a role in paranormal activity.

out of your 166 locations what are the most ones?

This next question left out a word. I think they meant to say most "haunted" or most "active" ones out of your investigated locations.

I have enjoyed many locations, but my top one is most definately the Holton House Bed and Breakfast in Holton Kansas.

The other locations that have been my favorite are: Hotel Josephine in Holton Kansas, Memorial Hall in KCK, Santa Fe Depot and Constitution Hall in Topeka. These places the PRI team have captured some amazing evidence of the paranormal from disembodied voices, a couple EVP's, or even a thermal image of a full body of a person who we did not see with our own eyes but only with the thermal imager. These places we have also seen stuff move and honestly believe that these locations are haunted and the evidence we have obtained supports this.

how many people are on your team? And is this a full time job for you and for them?

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 3:37 p.m.

There are 11 of us on the PRI team.

This is not a job for any of us, but this is a passion for all of us. As instead of just investigating we seek to research and obtain scientifically data. The group consists of a pharmacist, physician, nurse, police detective, and machine fabricators. All of us combined help our clients find answers to their questions.

With Halloween a day or two away, what's the best bet to do to experience some paranormal activity in the area?

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 3:42 p.m.

There are some great tours that a company called Ghost Tours of Kansas do for many cities (Topeka, Holton, Lawrence, KCK, and Leavenworth) . They take people all around the area to locations that claim to have paranormal activity. Many of the locations they take people my team has personally investigated.

I watch TAPS - Love them! do you investigate like them? do you have equipment like them? what do you think of the other paranormal shows out there?

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 3:55 p.m.

We investigate from the scientific point of view and our team attempts to disprove at great links that any paranormal activity. We have a photograph specialist on out team named Sean. We have nicknamed him Andy Andrews (for all of TAPS fans) b/c of debunking skills. We take great pride in our work and we use the motto "Logic First, Paranormal Last" Meaning that first we think about a logical reason of why a claim of activity is occuring, then of course the last reason we think about a claim of activity is that it is Paranormal.

We actually have the same equipment as TAPS, such as DVR, digital recorders, Full Spectrum Cameras and a Thermal Imager. However we also have some custom equipment that we have designed, fabricated and built ourselves. We also have some other theoritical equipment that helps out to document and research the paranormal.

As far as the tv shows I do not watch them very often as sometimes their methods and techniques are questionable. However I do appreciate them bringing attention to something that I love so much which is the paranromal. I can remember a time when talk of the paranromal was talked about in back rooms, now I am lucky enough to be chatting with other people about a topic that I love. That is something I could not imagine happening prior to the show Ghost Hunters.

What is the best way for people to learn more about the paranormal and paranormal investigating and research??

Nick Spantgos, Paranormal Research Investigator

October 29, 2009 at 4:08 p.m.

Thanks Derrick, who happens to be my Lead Investigator and Researcher, for the great question.

Instead of watching television and copying their styles and techniques I would encourage people to read about the paranormal. There are many great paranormal authors such as Troy Taylor, Vince Wilson, Lloyd Auerbach, and Marie Jones. These books will help educate on the proper methods, procedures, and theories on the paranormal. I also encourage everyone to pick up "how to" books on plumbing, electricity. Only by understanding how things work can a person truely disprove a claim of activity such as "hearing footsteps up stairs" or "a faucet turning on".

Another great way to learn about the paranormal is to visit my website www.paranormalresearchinvestigators.com and join our forum and ask any question that you might have about the paranormal.

Everyone just remember the PRI motto "LOGIC first, Paranormal LAST" when dealing with any event that might deal with a claim of paranormal activity.
