Kansas man admits sexually assaulting child

OTTAWA, Kan. (AP) - A 33-year-old eastern Kansas man faces up to life in prison for a sexual crime against a young child. The Ottawa Herald reports that Duane Francis Brannan had been scheduled for trial later this month on five counts of molesting a 6-year-old child. The Ottawa man instead pleaded no contest Wednesday to a single count, under an agreement with the Franklin County prosecutor's office.

Prosecutor Heather Jones said the child had been prepared to testify against Brannan if the case had gone to trial. Jones said the abuse occurred from August 2010 to October of last year. Brannan did not dispute the evidence in court. He's been jailed since his arrest last October and will be sentenced March 12.
