Exhibit of prints by Kansas artist opens at Mulvane Art Museum June 20
TOPEKA -- "Ageless Wonders," an exhibition of prints by Justin Marable, will be on display at the Mulvane Art Museum June 20 to Sept. 13.
Raised in the northeast Kansas farm town of Robinson, Marable and his four brothers experienced the realities and everyday existence of being small town children of the Midwest. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, he walked the boundaries of his hometown, observing the landscape and landmarks of the surrounding areas. The history of a place, as well as its land and inhabitants, are all vitally important in defining a community's environmental and social conditions. In his work these qualities serve to emphasize the ever-growing abandonment of small towns and farmland of the Midwest. With the medium of serigraphy, or screen printing he expresses the man-made qualities of rural architecture.
Marable, a resident of Topeka, received a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking from the University of Kansas.
A reception is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 3, in conjunction with the First Friday Artwalk, July 3 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Mulvane will be closed July 4. Museum and ArtLab hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. No admission is charged. The museum will be closed July 4.
