1:10 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006
The woman accused of helping a convicted murderer escape from prison in a dog crate bonded out of the Leavenworth County jail early Thursday morning.
Officials say 48-year-old Toby Young posted a total bond of $100,000.
Her release comes less than a week after the death of her father, 70-year-old James Phalen Senior, who had been battling cancer. A memorial mass for Phalen is scheduled for Friday morning in Kansas City, Kansas.
Young is accused of driving convicted murderer John Manard from the Lansing Correctional Facility on February 12 in a van she used for the Safe Harbor Dogs program.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2.
Young is charged with aiding and abetting the aggravated escape and aiding a felon.
Last week she was also charged with bringing contraband - a cellular phone - into the prison. Officials say Manard and Young used the phone to help plan the escape.
