Washburn University is rated sixth in the Midwest among public master's level universities in the 2007 America's Best Colleges rankings released Friday by U.S. News and World Report. This is the seventh consecutive year that WU has earned the top-10 rating.
Washburn is ranked in the top quarter of public and private master's level institutions in the Midwest, ranking 30th out of 142. Of the 142 Midwestern schools compared in the ranking, 56 are public universities and 86 are private. Washburn ranked sixth among the 56 public universities.
The University ranks higher than other Kansas master's level schools, including Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University and Pittsburg State University.
"The rankings are evidence that the quality of our academic programs continue to make Washburn a best buy in higher education in Kansas and in the region," said David Monical, executive director of governmental and university relations.
Nationally, 286 public and private master's level institutions were ranked out of 557 listed. Of those, 92 were public master's level institutions, and among them Washburn was in the top one-third.
