Sheriff's firing range permit decision postponed

A decision over a permit request for the Shawnee County Sheriff Office firing range has been put off until January.
Shawnee County Commissioners looked over the request at their meeting Monday morning.
Last month, the Shawnee County Planning Commission voted to reject the operation permit request. According to the Commission's report, the outdoor shooting range was established 15 years ago without public input.
Commissioners must vote unanimously to formalize the request, something one Commissioner says he's not prepared to do.
"I'm not convinced that this County has put themselves in the position to protect themselves against a claim of liability (clapping)," said Shawnee County Commissioner Vic Miller. "I don't mean that to infer that I think it's unsafe, ok?"
