Two in-state wood-bat teams face off in Junction City.
Junction City There's no denying who the true boys of summer really are. After a 40-plus game this spring with their universities, college ballplayers from around northeast Kansas went back to the diamond this summer.
Monday night mixed it up with a little backyard brawl.
At Rathert Stadium, the Junction City Generals took on the Topeka Golden Giants. By the top of the first inning, Topeka jumped to a 1-0 lead.
It didn't take long for the Generals to flex their muscles. In the bottom of the first Nate Tenbrick (a Kansas State product) shot one past the first basemen, leaving two Generals to run home. Junction City went up, 2-1.
The Generals went on to win game one of the series, 5-1.
Same place, same time on Tuesday for the rematch. Check out 49 Sports for the highlights on Tuesday.
