VIDEO: Wrongfully accused, Vietnam veteran set free after 18 years in prison
A DNA test has set a man free.
A Vietnam veteran convicted for the 1981 rape of a Dallas woman has finally been exonerated after 18 years in prison.
Now specialized DNA tests proved Larry Fuller was not the assailant.
A prosecutor and judge apologized to Fuller, though neither was involved in the original case.
"I felt kind of sick to my stomach in that you've been incarcerated for so long because of a crime that you did not commit," Dallas County Judge Lana McDaniels said.
"On behalf of the Dallas County Sheriff's office and all the law enforcement agencies in Dallas County, I'd like to apologize to you for your lawful conviction for the many years you spent in prison for crimes you didn't commit," Assistant District Attorney John Rolater said.
Fuller accepted their apology.
He told reporters that his faith had been tested and he had won.
