Apple crops in Colorado are suffering from the cold spring weather.
And with growers facing tough losses, the federal government may have to help.
The Farm Service Agency is touring the fields and documenting the late blooming apple fields.
The yellowing or browning of buds and leaves indicate damage.
"We send these to our national office, and then Congress can use this information in deciding whether or not to have a disaster program," Farm Service Agency Spokesperson Kelly Springs.
Some growers have crop insurance. But, they say it won't begin to cover the amount they've already paid for spraying and maintenance of the crops much less their losses.
