SPORTS VIDEO: Lawrence High senior Abby Vestal signed a contract Friday afternoon to become the first female in the American Professional Football League.
When the Koyotes take the field, they'll be bringing someone to show a little leg.
A kicking leg that is, and she has a good one.
Lawrence High senior Abby Vestal signed a contract Friday afternoon to become the first female in the American Professional Football League.
Vestal, who will attend Johnson County Community College in the fall on a soccer scholarship, says she's excited about her new summer job.
It's really exciting, it's a cool experience," Koyote kicker Abby Vestal said. "But this kind of thing is about another team to play on, to continue playing football. After high school, after my last game, I didn't think I would ever play again, ever. Maybe just like throw it around in the back yard, but I never thought I could play again on a team."
Vestal and her new team kick-off their season Saturday evening at 7:05 against the Iowa Blackhawks at the Kansas Expocentre.
