Lady Blues split with Fort Hays State

Game 2: Washburn 5, Fort Hays State 0

HAYS, Kan. The Washburn Lady Blues split an MIAA doubleheader at Fort Hays State dropping the first game 5-2 before coming back to take the second game 5-0. The Lady Blues are now 22-15 on the season and 8- 4 in the MIAA.

In the opener, the Lady Blues fell behind 3-0 after three innings before coming back to score two in the fifth inning on a Malarie Fellers 2 RBI double. The Lady Blues managed only four hits in the game while stranding seven base runners.

The nightcap saw the Lady Blues score one in the first on a single by Tish Williams scoring Ashley Webb who reached to lead off the game on an error by the Tigers' centerfielder. In the sixth, Washburn added three more runs as Williams again provided the offense with a 3-run homer down the left field line scoring Webb and Jessie Batres. The Lady Blues added one more in the seventh on Webb's single scoring Mandi Daigh.

Kayla Long went the distance scattering six hits and striking out two.

Williams finished the second game 2 for 3 with 4 RBI and Webb was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Washburn will be back in action on Tuesday against Missouri Western at the Washburn softball complex starting at 3 p.m.
