Shawnee County Judge Matthew Dowd has removed himself from a controversial case that's caused national outrage.
Dowd allowed Orlando Cisneros to walk free after he was convicted of repeatedly raping and sodomizing a 14-year-old girl.
Dowd gave Cisneros probation, but Cisneros is accused of violating the probation only five days later.
Wednesday, a different judge will determine whether to sentence Cisneros to 13 years in prison for the rape or leave him on probation.
The court clerk did not say why Dowd removed himself, but she said it was voluntary.

Perhaps Judge Dowd would be so kind as to remove himself from the state of Kansas as well, having blackened our criminal justice system and betrayed the trust of parents in their government's protection of their children.
