Moran supports farm bill, touts its promotion of renewable energy

Kansas officials studying the Bush administration's farm bill plan say it carries both good and bad news for the state's farmers.
Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts says the plan would make it more expensive for farmers to buy crop insurance.
Wheat farmers are calling the plan unfair because they can't take advantage of certain subsidy programs.
However, Congressman Jerry Moran says the proposal would boost conservation funding, promoting research in renewable fuels.
"Mostly this is about how do we create ethanol out of cellulosic material, so that it's more like taking ethanol from the corn cob instead of the corn kernel. Those are good things, and we are poised in this state, both on the research side, on the growing side, and also in manufacturing the renewable fuels, soy diesel and ethanol," Moran said.
Congress will have the final say on what's included in farm legislation. The current bill expires in September.
