Emporia firefighters cleaning up spill

A weakened wall in a railway car appears to be the source of a hazardous material leak around 10:30 Wednesday morning on Burlington Northern-Santa Fe property in southwest Emporia.
"It's a tank car apparently that was just sitting there," said Steve Forsberg, spokesman for the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe. "Apparently its wall cracked or something and it's leaking denatured alcohol."
The spill appeared to be approximately one block west of Second Avenue and West Street, near the railroad tracks.
The area was blocked from pedestrian traffic at press time. Fire department officers were working at the scene and not available for comment late Wednesday morning.
Forsberg said that the environmental officer had just arrived on the scene shortly before noon, and that more information would be available later.
