A Frankfort, Kansas native's efforts paid off Monday when 32 fallen soldiers from the Marshall County community were honored for their military service.
Frankfort native Frank Benteman, with the help of Senator Pat Roberts, earned the soldiers a place on the Congressional Record.
All of the troops died in the Second World War.
Frankfort, at the time, was home to 1,800 people, and was hit hard.
"This small rural town suffered the highest number of casualties compared to any town of similar size," Senator Pat Roberts said. "The significance of this sacrifice in defense of our national security and in support of freedom and democracy cannot be overstated."
Benteman wanted to recognize the overlooked heroes after reading a back issue of a local paper from May 7, 1945.
Three people were missing from the list of the dead.
Marshall County lost 98 troops in the Second World War.
