Kansas Silent Film Festival offers family-friendly, entertaining environment

The movies we see today are high-tech and loud. That last item in particular separates them from movies appearing in a film festival in Kansas this weekend.

The 11th Annual Kansas Silent Film Festival, held this weekend at Washburn University, will highlight a plethora of movies of a variety of topics, time periods and genres from comedy to drama.

  • When: Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, time TBA
  • Where: White Concert Hall, Washburn University, Topeka
  • Cost: Free
  • Age limit: All ages

Full event details

One highlight will be the earliest film of Chicago.

However, it won't be that silent at the festival, said director Bill Shaffer. An orchestra will perform during some of the shows.

The film festival is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. Friday.

"There's always something fun and funny going on in these early films," Shaffer said. "I think a lot of families will enjoy it. Kids will enjoy it."
