State has financial aid for grandparents raising grandchildren

More than 18,000 Kansas grandparents raising their grandchildren are getting a little help.
The state has designed a program that pays grandparents $200 a month per grandchild, up to $600.
To qualify, a grandparent must be at least 50-years-old and have an income that is about $1,800 a month for a family of three.
"It's been a long road, but I'm proud to be up here representing and getting them where they need to be," grandparent Kim Strunk said.
Last year, legislators set aside $2.1 million for the first six-months of the program.
SRS is now taking applications.
