Sumner School's future is with the Pioneer Group

It is a Kansas landmark, the center of the Brown Vs. Board case. Now, Sumner School could be sold and turned into housing.
Tuesday night, more than 20 people were singing, enjoying themselves and supporting Community First.
The group wants to return the historical site to a charter school, but they may lose out to a competing bid.
"Sumner is a landmark historic site as a school, so we believe that if they give it to Mr. Freeman, they'll have to give it back to us because it belongs to us," said Sandra Lassiter of Community First.
The city manager Tuesday night accepted a competing bid from the Pioneer Group.
That group plans to renovate the Sumner School building. It would put in 21 units of senior housing and also build townhomes on the adjoining property.
A contract will be drawn up and presented to the City Council for final approval.
If approved, the Pioneer Group would have until February to meet the contract requirements
