Topeka Several area cowboys and cowgirls tied down a trip to High School National Finals in Springfield Illinois Sunday night at the State High School Rodeo Finals.
The top four cowboys and cowgirls in each event earn a trip to the event.
One of the riders advancing is Rock Creek's Jared Schlegel. He'll represent Kansas in the calf roping event. Joining him is fellow Rock Creek cowboy Lance Anderson. Anderson didn't ride particularly well on the saddle bronc, but still scored high enough to advance on.
Team Roping tandem Collin Domer and Dawson McMaster, of Seaman and Marysville, respectively, will advance as well.
As for the cowgirls, Jefferson West's Jolie Van Petten is moving on in both the cutting and goat tying events. Micah Samples of Abilene earned a spot in barrel racing. Joining her in barrels will be White City's Becky Anderson. Anderson will also compete in goat tying.
Last but not least, Emporia's Lindsey Hollond will represent Kansas in goat tying, barrel racing, and pole bending.
Hollond also won the "All-Around" title, given to the state's top season points leader. She'll join Van Petten and Anderson at nationals for the fourth-straight year.
