Fanstastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the ever-charming Thing are back in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. In this sequel, the wedding of the century between Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) is all set to take place when unexpectedly that blessed event takes a back seat to what seems to be a meteor flying around the earth, affecting our weather system.

The Army summons our heroes to investigate the strange happenings and stop it. It turns out to be an entity, a being called "The Silver Surfer" who is coming down to destroy the earth. When the Fantastic Four fails at their attempts, the Army seeks the help from a nemesis that was thought to have been put on ice, the evil Dr. Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon). It becomes a race to save the earth for the Fantastic Four and once again battle Doom, who you know has alternative motives on his mind for world domination.

This is easily the most enjoyable sequel to come out this summer, along with Shrek the Third. This is a fast-paced film with terrific special effects, moving from beginning to end, never letting up. This is one of the sequels that completely out does the original and leaves it the dust. With that being said, the original, as far as the story goes, did stink on ice. The story isn't great here either, but its not bad and that helps. Remember, this is not Shakespeare, it's a big budgeted summer blockbuster that's intended to entertain and this movie accomplishes that with flying colors.

The cast is also much better. The one main problem is the blond hair of the very sexy Jessica Alba that just never looked right to me during the entire film. I was also excited to see Julian McMahon return as Dr. Doom, but his part seemed secondary to the Silver Surfer storyline.

The movie is rated PG and its suitable for the family to go and watch a fun super hero movie that comes in an hour shorter than Spiderman 3. I had a blast with some great lines, laughs and excitement. This is one of those sequels that most groaned about due to their disappointment with the original, but with this sequel I believe many will be as pleased as I was.
