Take a flight and help fight cancer

Tom Allen is with Flights for Cancer. They have organized a charity event with the Great Plains Balloon Club, a local hot-air balloon club. The club is supplying the pilots and the equipment. Capitol City Oil is supplying the propane.

Everyone is encouraged to come to the event where they can see the sights from high in the air. The cost to go up in a balloon is just $5 per person. All the profits will go to cancer research through the American Cancer Society and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Raffle tickets will also be sold for $10 and a prize drawing will take place on Sunday. The winner will recieve a full hot-air balloon flight donated by the Great Plains Balloon Club.

Allen has a special passion for the fight against cancer. He was diagnosed in 2005 with testicular cancer. He is now two years cancer free.

"It's a relief. I have a wife and a 4 year old son so they are relieved as well. I am just relieved that I don't have to go through it again," Allen said. "At the same time in the back of my mind I am always thinking about the people that are not as lucky as I am."

Allen was inspired to get involved with the Lance Armstrong Foundation during his chemotherapy treatments. He read Armstrong's first book which talked about the foundation. Allen started doing some research online and found out how to become an advocate and help to join the fight.
