Cancer survivor flying high to benefit research

— One man's fight with cancer has others flying high to find a cure.

Hot air balloons took flight in Southwest Topeka Saturday for a charity event organized by the Great Plains Balloon Club and cancer survivor Tom Allen. For $5, community members got to take a ride in one of the balloons. Raffle tickets were also sold for $10 where the winner would receive full hot-air balloon flight.

Because the club donated all of the supplies, Allen says 100 percent of the proceeds will go to cancer research through the American Cancer Society and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
