"I've been working in education policy at the state level for a while," he said.

He worked for Gov. Kathleen Sebelius during the school finance battle when he discovered the importance of having people on a local level to implement these policies.

"We're allocating hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of our students," he said. "And, we need people who are going to vigilantly ensure that every single dollar goes toward the benefit of our students, and none is wasted."

The key issues he wants to address as a board member including expanding early learning opportunities.

If elected, Woods' son would have begun school before his term would expire. His wife is a teacher in the district.

Woods' opponent is Bill Reid. See Reid's interview here.
