Going to the mats with CSW wrestlers

SPORTS VIDEO:

49 Sports Director Nick Griffith hit the mats with some of the wrestlers to get a better "feel", literally, for the sport they love and why they do what they do.

Each Wrestler is different.

"Baby face is a good guy, which is what I am," CSW wrestler Tyler Cook said. "And a heel is a bad guy, so it's good versus evil."

Some good...

"I'm naturally a baby face, I'm a good guy," CSW wrestler Corwin Star said.

...some bad...

"I'm a jerk, I'm a jerk, there could be other words for it, but I'm a jerk," CSW wrestler Domino Rivera said.

...with different moves, and motivation...

"Fly around and kind of beat people up and not get into too much trouble for it," CSW wrestler Alexis Ocean said.

"I was a theatre major and thought, 'wow, this looks like fun'," Star said.

...and different role-models to emulate.

"The person who inspired me was the Rock, just cause he had so much charisma," Star said.

"I had two favorite wrestlers, Sean Michaels and Mr. Perfect," Cook said.

But these local talents, just like all athletes, do share one very common similarity, their goal to make the bigtime.

"I want people back home to be able to tune into the TV and be able to see me, be like, 'I know that guy' so," Cook said.

"Whether it be TNA or WWE, you know everybody dreams that," Rivera said. "That's the big boys. That's where the top of the game is at."

That's why they train endless hours and hold tight, cherishing the opportunity like this weekend's Third Annual Show, to be held at the Armory in Lawrence.

You can bet the pain will definitely be dished out at this weekend's X-Mark the Sport event at... (Nick Gets Beat-Up!).

Could have done without the moaning. a little over the top, but not bad for a sports director.
