Men not as prone to surgery to keep looking good

"Think of it this way...real men wear pink on the golf course."
Men may wear pink on the golf course, but are they as quick to go under the knife to show they're secure with their masculinity?
"Not as much as women," plastic surgeon Dr. Jack Peterson said. "But we do see men interested in rhinoplasty. Something we see them interested in is gynecomastia surgery when men have breast tissue. That's something we see men for, also liposuction."
I tracked down several men who have had Botox injections, veneers put on their teeth, liposuction, but you won't hear from any of them. They weren't comfortable being on camera, but they're out there.
In fact in 2006, cosmetic procedures in men went up eight percent.
The top five male cosmetic surgical procedures are male breast reductions, hair transplants, liposuction, eyelid surgery and nose jobs.
And the top five minimally invasive procedures are laser skin resurfacing, chemical peel, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal and Botox.
And as expected, it hasn't completely taken off in this area.
"We just don't have it as much as on the coast, but I think you're seeing more men and women that are interested in having things like that done," Peterson said.
But I did find a man who says you don't have to shell out a bunch of money or go under the knife to pamper yourself and still feel like a man.
"If you're assured in masculinity, then what difference does it make? It's something that feels good and it's relaxing," Gary Adkins said.
Adkins gets massages, manicures and pedicures regularly. As a former nail-biter, manicures helped curb the habit.
"A lot of men are afraid of pedicures because they're ticklish," Adkins said.
But not Gary. As a diabetic, taking care of his feet is important for his health. But it's something else, too.
"Little bit of vanity obviously, but why not?" Adkins said.
"I think most men think it's a feminine thing. But it's really not. It's very relaxing and rejuvinating," said Angie Specht of Angie's Total Body Spa.
And that's what keeps this guy coming back for more.
