A benefit concert for the East Topeka Senior Center
49 News Reporter Dana Davis spoke with Michelle Faris, wife or mother of the Faris Family Band members.
Michelle said the band formed about ten years ago with an emphasis on bluegrass music, which is traditionally a family-based musical genre. The band would like to keep the bluegrass tradition going, like the Munroe brothers and the Carter family.
The band performs both bluegrass and gospel, and a blend of both. They performed Story of My Life live during the 6:00 a.m. newscast.

The band will perform a benefit concert at White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus Thursday night from 7:00-10:00 p.m. The proceeds of the performance will go to the East Topeka Senior Center, which is raising funds for various activities for patrons of the Center. The Band has performed to benefit the Center in the past. Michelle said it's always a joy for them to help out.
Prior to the performance at 6:00, there will be a silent auction of donated items, some "really cool stuff", Michelle said.
The Band performed I've Got a Date live during the 6:30 a.m. newscast.
