A Fort Riley soldier has been attacked and killed in Afghanistan. 41 year-old Sergeant First Class Johnny Walls died on Friday. The Bremerton, Washington native was a cannon crew member serving on a transition team based out of Fort Riley. This was his second deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism. 138 Fort Riley soldiers have been killed while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
A bull rider from Missouri has died after an accident during a rodeo in Topeka. 21 year-old Cody Bruner of Warrensburg, Missouri died as he was dismounting a bull after a successful ride. Rodeo officials say the bull stepped on Brunner's throat between the Adam's apple and the protective vest he was wearing.
A fisherman is dead after apparently drowning at Lake Shawnee. Authorities say another fisherman pulled the 34-year-old from the lake this morning, and tried to save him by performing CPR. Deputies think the man fell into the water. They're trying to track down and notify his family. His name will be released after that.
More legal trouble for a Topeka church group that protests military funerals. Today the case against a leader of the Westboro Baptist Church was heard in a Nebraska courtroom. Shirley Phelps-Roper is charged with allowing her 10-year-old son to stand on the American flag on a picket line in Nebraska last summer. Under Nebraska law, mutilating or trampling on an American flag is illegal. Phelps-Roper faces charges of negligent child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disturbing the peace. Last week, the church was ordered to pay $11 million to a man who sued the church after they protested his Marine son's funeral.
Somebody hit it big in Kansas. A winning lottery ticket was sold in South Central Kansas. The ticket matched all six numbers drawn on Saturday. Those numbers are 10, 20, 21, 23, and 28 with a Cashball of 15. So far, the winner has not come forward. The ticket is worth more than $1 million.

49 Storm Team Forecast: Highs this afternoon will struggle to hit the upper 50s. Tomorrow, it gets worse. Tuesday temperatures are going to be stuck in the middle 40s. Windy conditions will make it feel even colder this afternoon, though winds should calm tonight. Lows drop back into the 20s overnight. Staying chilly all week with a chance for rain moving in by Saturday night. It's a slight chance at best.
