"We want to do our part in the Topeka community to get parents engaged in their children's lives through nutrition education, and getting them out and actively involved with their children through exercise events that we have in local schools," said Julie Connor with the Junior League of Topeka.

Happy, Healthy Me! is a Junior League program that hopes to fill the gaps in community resources for young people.

Parents interested in pitching in and helping fill those gaps can not only do so by participating with their children in activities but can also attend a mixer and gourmet dinner Nov. 9 at the Topeka Performing Arts Center. A silent auction will also be held.

The fun continues Nov. 10 with the Merry Market. Exhibitors with items from baby clothing to jewelery will be at the Merry Market at the Ag Hall at the Kansas Expocentre.

The proceeds from the Merry Mixer and the Merry Market benefit the Junior League of Topeka.

Junior League of Topeka is a group of about 400 area women who work to improve the self-esteem of children, identify needs in the community and develop the resources to fulfill those needs.

In the past, Junior League have supported ERC, CASA and Meals on Wheels. It's been around for about 70 years.
