Washburn looks for compromise on campus smoking issue

Right now, smokers at Washburn University are acting as guinea pigs.
The school is trying out a designated non-smoking area.
People are not allowed to smoke within thirty feet of the doors of the Student Union.
The trial period began earlier last week and ends Friday.
A town hall meeting Wednesday will find out what people think of the designated areas.
Smokers and non-smokers we spoke with support some restrictions.
But one student says it could lead to war.
"But how you go about policing it is tough," non-smoking senior Scott said. "A lot of red tape for sure. We're going through that in Lawrence and big fight, big fight for sure. So I'm sure it'll be the same thing here. It's kinda opening yourself up to a war."
"I understand people don't wanna deal with second hand smoke," smoking law student Jon Noble said. "And I can't really fault them for it. It's my choice to smoke and it's not theirs."
The committee deciding the issue says they don't want to ban smoking on campus, but want to find a compromise.
No decisions will be made at tomorrow's meeting, but a decision could come in February.
