A child waiting for a school bus found himself in 4' under.
6-year-old Jacobe Grier fell feet first into an excavating hole in near the corner of 12th and Lawrence this morning.
Jacobe was jumping on a piece of plywood, witnesses say, when he fell in. The hole was about 4.5' deep and 18" across.
Jacobe's leg was wedged underneath him.
Rescuers dug until they were able to free him. He was trapped for about an hour.
Joey Grier, the boy's father, said he was "nervous" and relieved the situation wasn't worse.
"He wasn't crying, but he came through it," Joey said.
About a dozen police and fire fighters responded.
Jacobe is expected to be okay, but he was taken to a local hospital to be checked, just in case.
His father said he was going to take him home to get something to eat.
The contractor at the site has been notified, and the hole is being filled today.
