Run For a Reason will take place at Moore Bowl on the Washburn University campus. The Saturday event will have three races. The three races will include a 5K race, a half-marathon race and a fun run/walk.
The event is important because it teaches children healthy lifestyle decisions, and provides children a safe environment to get them off the streets. Currently only Topeka students are targeted to benefit from the event, but Run For a Reason hopes to expand in the future.
Run For a Reason will be at Great Plains Running Company until 7 pm Friday to preregister. You can also preregister at www.getmeregistered.com. Registration will start tomorrow at 6:30 am.
49 News Reporter Dana Davis reports from Moore Bowl about Saturday's Run for a Reason. Dana talks to Debra Ricks of Run For a Reason about the event.
The half-marathon run will start at 7:30am, the 5K-run will start at 8am and the fun run/walk will start at 10am. All of the events will be at Moore Bowl on the Washburn University campus. For more information you may call Linda Fricke at (785) 273-1295.
Run for a Reason, which started as a Topeka Collegiate fun run, opened up to the entire community after early success. The event is hoping to raise money for children ranging from eight to 10 years old. The students that benefit from the event will be picked by Run For a Reason and local principals.
Money is raised through generous community support. Ringling Bros. will be at the event for kids, and hospitals will sponsor health-related events. Washburn University President Dr. Jerry Farley will participate in the event as well.
