A fundraiser for State Street Elementary School in Topeka has gone to the bugs.

Cockroach races are new this year to the school's carnival fundraiser.

Roaches will go head-to-head to raise money for school activities.

Fifth grade teacher Andrea May has taught children not to be scared of what some deem a gross bug. The school's roaches are called hissing cockroaches, and May says the kids like to touch them and make them hiss.

The hissing cockroaches don't fly, bite or jump.

Kids will take part in 25 different activities, including inflatables, obstacle course, a 30-foot slide, cake walk, games, clown performances and a strongman contest.

The cockroach race will be among the games played at the State Street Carnival. The Good Morning Kansas crew got a sneak peek of what the students there will see, and you can too. Watch cockroach race.
