Washburn Rural students asked, "Why Take the Risk?"
5:39 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Local high school students got a real-life look at what it's like to drive drunk.
This is what students at Washburn Rural High School did to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.
This event is called "Why Take The Risk?"
No alcohol was involved. Students put on Fatal Vision goggles that simulate what it's like to drive drunk.
Then they got in golf carts and tried to drive around a course. Some hit a cone or two.
Some of the students were even given sobriety tests.
Students say it was fun driving around in the golf carts, but they understand the seriousness of today's activity.
"It's hard once you get behind the wheel after you drink," freshman Paige Clark said. "And you shouldn't do it because you can hurt people."
The event was sponsored by Students Against Drunk Driving with help from the Sheriff's Office.
