With the snip of a pair of scissors, Frito-Lay's Topeka facility officially expands. The 40,000-square-foot addition houses the company's new SunChips production line.
Regional Vice President Mark Brinker is excited about the opening.
"It's a significant investment by Frito-Lay back into the community for this expansion and this start-up," Brinker said. "It's also brought the opportunity of 75 new jobs for the Topeka community."
Shawnee County Commissioner Ted Ensley says bringing quality jobs to the community is what the expansion is about.
"It is a challenge, but when it comes to the opportunity for employment in our community, the Chamber, the City, the State, and the County work very closely together," Ensley said."
City Manager Norton Bonaparte says the company has shown that it is very good to be in the Capital City.
"Oh it's really exciting for Topeka to have a business here, Frito-Lay, that has chosen to invest in Topeka," Bonaparte said."
Commissioner Ensley says the opening is also personal.
"My neighbor, next door neighbor works here," Ensley said. "And it's really put a face to the thing, so it's really something special."
