Family and friends said good-bye to a Kansas soldier this morning. Sergeant Michael Chenoweth, 29, died August 27 in Arkansas. He was buried in Reading this morning. Chenoweth served in the U.S. Navy and was an Army veteran of the Iraq war. He was stationed in Iraq, but was on leave at the time of his death.

An independent report on progress in Iraq says Baghdad has not met 11 of its 18 security and political goals. But, the study by the Government Accountability Office is more upbeat than expected. Four benchmarks have been partially met while three goals have been fully achieved. The GAO says key legislation has not been passed in Iraq and violence there remains high.

A former Kansas State University professor convicted of killing his ex-wife wants a new trial. Thomas Murray says his first trial was unfair. He was convicted of first-degree murder in March of 2005 in the beating and stabbing death of Carmin Ross. The Kansas Supreme Court will hear arguments in the appeal case Thursday. The court can set aside the verdict, order a new trial or uphold Murray's conviction.

The man who used Kansas as a launch pad for a world record is missing. This is Steve Fossett after completing the record flight around the world in Salina two years ago. He became the first person to fly a plane solo around the world without refueling. Fossett launched from Nevada Monday night in a single engine-plane, and hasn't been seen since. The search area covers hundreds of square miles of rugged terrain. Three crews are already in the air looking for him, and more are on the way.
