An Emporia Soldier has died in Iraq. 20-year-old David Lane was one of three soldiers killed when an IED exploded near their Humvee yesterday. Lane joined the Army a year ago and had been stationed in Iraq since February. He was serving with the Charlie 2-16 company out of Fort Riley.

A Fort Riley soldier has waived his right to a military hearing on charges of killing a fellow soldier. 27-year-old Sergeant Castulo Salas signed his waiver before today's hearing at Fort Riley. He faces one count of murder with an inherently dangerous weapon for the death of Specialist Christian Quinones. The case now goes for review by Fort Riley's commanding general and a court martial date will be set. Salas allegedly shot Quinones on July 28th at a Junction City apartment.

German officials aren't identifying specific targets of three suspected Islamic terrorists who are now in custody. But a senior State Department official says German investigators have determined the primary targets were the Frankfurt International Airport and the U.S. Ramstein air base. The official also says the suspects may have been planning strikes on other sites, especially those associated with the U.S. Prosecutors say the three suspects were from a group influenced by Al-Qaida and have a profound hatred of U.S. citizens. The three reportedly trained at camps in Pakistan and had obtained 1,500 pounds of hydrogen peroxide.

The nation's largest microwave popcorn maker plans to change its recipe for buttery flavoring. ConAgra says it made the decision after a leading lung research hospital linked a flavoring chemical to a lung ailment in popcorn plant workers. The hospital also said fumes from that flavoring item could also harm consumers. A ConAgra spokeswoman says the company will change the recipe for its Orville Redenbacher and Act Two brands. Last week, Weaver Popcorn said it would replace the butter flavoring because of consumer concern.

Two more community members have been recognized as Champions of Character. Today, Russ Briggs of Briggs Auto Group and Julie Ribelin were both recognized by the Safe Streets Coalition and Topeka City of Character. Briggs was nominated for providing public service announcements. Ribelin, a mother of five, was nominated for her work with a disabled woman and her work with Meals on Wheels.

49 Storm Team Forecast A chunk of moisture will work its way out of Oklahoma and Texas and into Northeast Kansas later today. A slight chance for showers will remain in the forecast for our eastern counties through tonight. Rainfall amounts should be fairly light, less than a half inch. Dry by tonight before another chance for storms moves in tomorrow night. That chance is much better and sticks with us until Friday evening. The weekend is looking mainly dry as highs fall all the way back to the 70s.
