Riding to raise money and to feel closer to a beloved, late father
9:20 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2007
"I don't feel like I ever had the opportunity to properly say goodbye."
This ride will give Eric Nordgren the chance he thought he'd lost.
"The concept of burying my father in an emotional way - in a personal way - I had to lay that one off and set it aside," Eric Nordgren said.
The moment passed him by because he was spending countless hours fighting his wife's medical bills.
She is waiting for a liver transplant.

"They would always automatically come in and say it's not covered, so I'd have to battle them," Nordgren said.
His wife now has Medicare and he has taken his new battle, against cancer, on the road.
He chose to ride to raise money because his dad was so inspired by Lance Armstrong's courage and strength.
"It just gets prettier and prettier," he said.
He said his time on the road gives him a chance to think and remember.
"In the last few weeks of his life, our relationship had drawn extremely close," Nordgren said. "In a way it's disappointing because you come that close and then it's gone."
But September 27th they'll be close again.
"Yes, he'll be with me."
Eric makes the long journey on his dad's birthday.
"This is something he'd be quite proud of."
Eric will travel a route more than 225 miles across Northeast Kansas.
It's in the shape of a heart and he felt that was a perfect fit.
