Purple Power Play has Manhattan seeing green
6:23 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2007
Football fans don't have to wait until Saturday to get into the spirit. 30,000 people are already pumped up downtown and businesses expect pumped up profits.
"It's always exciting to have the college kids back and K-State football going and I've worked on Purple Power Play for years," Pathfinder manager David Coburn said.
It's a two-day community pep rally that showcases the Wildcats before their first home game.
It also showcases shops like David Coburn's bike shop.
"It's an important time for us," he said.
Coburn said when the sea of purple fans roll in, so does the money.
And on game days, fans like Tanya Faiola said nothing can stop the Wildcats or their spending.
So I asked, is money an object for any K-State fan?
"No, it's not an object, if you're a K-State fan," K-State fan Tanya Faiola said.
"Football around here is a big deal to us," KSU Army ROTC student Clinton Medovich said.
Medovich helped set up the main stage for the street bash.
Even on a college budget, come football season he and his buddies go all out.
"Oh it doesn't matter, it's all about the game and all about supporting your team," Medovich said. "Round here there's no limit on what you can spend."
The action continues Friday at 6 p.m. with a pep rally and fans will get a chance to see Ron Prince and the guys before they take the field on Saturday.
