The Department of Homeland Security has started touring Topeka Public Schools.
Homeland Security agents are reviewing security at all schools, and Wednesday they started at Hope Street Academy.
The district will spend more than a $500,000 securing the entrances to schools.
And principals say they're glad to have professionals tell them how they can keep students safer.
"We want to portray an environment that is like a second home, but even at your home you also want to feel safe and secure," principal Dale Noll said.
The Homeland Security agents say they'll have their visits to the schools complete by the end of the year.
