The two sides have bickered for weeks, but Friday, the City Manager met face-to-face with the head of the firefighters union. Union President Kent Dederick gave City Manager Norton Bonaparte a list of specific issues concerning the fire department and Chief Howard Giles. Dederick says morale is low for firefighters because of Giles' lack of leadership and communication. He says the only solution is for the city to fire Giles, but Bonaparte says he's not going to do it. The City Manager says he will meet next with Giles to discuss the union's list of concerns. Dederick says he will inform union members about the meeting, and hopes Bonaparte will keep an open mind as the situation moves forward.
Like another Network great, he's mad as hell and he's not going to take it anymore! Former news anchor Dan Rather spoke out about his 70-million dollar lawsuit against CBS with Larry King Last night. Rather claims the network damaged his reputation over inaccuracies in a story on President Bush and his time in the Texas Air National Guard. And he says he's not suing for financial gain. Rather was removed from his anchor position in March, 2005. At the time, he was making $6 million a year. A CBS spokeswoman says his lawsuit is without merit.
Hybrid car sales are up 49% in this year, largely because of a sales boom in the Midwest. But if a new car isn't in your budget, you can still go green while saving some green, and not just through light bulbs and plastic bottles. Renting movies instead of buying them can cut down on the amount of plastic waste which is used to wrap the DVD's. Not using disposable items in the lunch you take to work can also help you go green. It also helps save money.
Welcome home to members of the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division! Grateful family members and loved ones greeted 165 soldiers at Marshall Army Airfield last night. They're back from a one-year tour in Iraq, taking care of security and convoy escort operations.
And they're off! Oktoberfest in Ohio went to the dogs today. The dachshunds dashed a short sprint near Cincinnati's Fountain Square. All the dogs donned hot dog buns with ketchup or mustard. Each bun had the racing number on the side. Great way to kick off the weekend at the largest Oktoberfest gathering outside of the original in Germany.
49 Storm Team Forecast Drier and cooler air have worked into the area temporarily as a weak area of high pressure visits us. Saturday, we'll see highs in the lower 80s and East winds of 5-10mph. Overnight lows in the 60s. Sunday is the first day of fall, but it'll feel more like summer to be honest. Highs should have no problems reaching the upper 80s to near 90 degrees with partly cloudy, breezy and humid conditions. Clouds will increase with moisture surging in from the south from the latest tropical depression AND a cold front approaching from the northwest. Both will hook up to give us storm chances Monday afternoon with highs in the lower 80s.
