Young and old share a piece of history

High school students don’t normally enjoy a weekend homework assignments, but one group of students from Lyndon didn't mind a weekend history lesson.
86-year-old Edna Davis graduated from Lyndon High school back in 1941 and soon joined her brother in the service. Edna prepared meals for soldiers fighting in World War II.
Now decades later, Edna is preparing to see the long awaited World War 2 memorial in Washington D.C. with a little help from some students.
With the assistance of Honor Flight, an organization that pays for Veterans to visit memorials in Washington, a group of Lyndon high school students is raising money and chaperoning several Kansas Veterans to the site.
And the students hope to get as much out of the experience as the war veterans.
"I want to learn about what they went through and what kinds of things they did to help gain freedom for our country," says student Derek Banzahaf.
The students’ fundraising event was rained out this weekend, so they moved the group out of the rain and into the school, making for an impromptu history lesson from Edna herself.
The kids look forward to spending time with her and learning about a time they say people often forget.
And for Edna, it's a trip that may be hard to take.
"I imagine it will be emotional for me because those boys were like my brothers."
