Oprah's Big Give: City addresses Topeka woman's water woes

VIDEO:

Oprah's Big Give: Topeka is changing the life and house of one Topeka woman.

David Bowen with Blue Dot services replaced Bobbie Fowler's hot water heater. It's just one the many repairs that are needed to give her back her quality of life in her childhood home.

"Try and get some water hooked up to at least her kitchen sink for the night so she's not without water," Bowen said.

And Jacob Ogden from DL Smith Electric is installing brand new wiring.

"So you're looking at pretty old wiring," he said. "I'm sure it was original with the house."

Crews have a lot of work to do on the bathroom. One of the biggest challenges is working around five new kittens.

"Those are the babies, and they just about ready to go to new homes," Fowler said.

Fowler's bathroom fixtures were 60 years old, and she didn't have a bathtub.

So, today she got a new bathtub/shower; she had never had a shower in the house before.

"I'm going to start crying," she said.

And once the work has been completed, she says she is going to take a long soak in the tub.

Wednesday, Fowler will get new cabinets and flooring.
