OBG recipient fitted for hearing aid

"Looks pretty good there," says hearing aid technician Bob Lock.

Nancy Lawrence is not new to having her hearing tested. Just last year, she found out that she was a good candidate for a new hearing aid.

But since it wasn't covered by insurance, "It was just an item that I had to do without," says Lawrence.

Now thanks to Topeka Ear Nose and Throat and hearing aid technician Bob Lock, Nancy will get that hearing aid.

Lock says, "We are trying to amplify volume, mostly the speech sounds. Her hearing loss is a real good candidate for understanding speech and speech with enough volume."

Lock says the device will clear up a lot of communication issues she's had with her family.

"I know my family is going to be thrilled and I am kind of excited about it," Lawrence says.

Nancy was selected to be part of Oprah's Big give Topeka. During our first visit with Nancy, Let's Help determined she could probably use a new hearing aid.

"We'll probably start with the hearing aid set on the low side so you can get used to it," Lock tells Nancy.

After her final fitting, Nancy is on her way. So what's the first thing she's going to do with her new hearing aid?

"Show it to all the family. Let them practice talking to me," Nancy says, smiling.

It's just as big of a thrill for Bob to help.

"It's exciting we don't get to do it often enough. All the office members were really excited. I feel really good about it," he says.

Thanks to PDQ Construction, she will also be getting some new windows and new wiring for her house. Nancy wanted to also send out a very special thank you to Shaw's Fencing for a new fence and Gretchen with Weekenders USA for her brand new clothes.
