Work on Oprah's Big Give continues in Topeka, nationally

Crews are patching things up at the home of an Oprah's Big Give recipient.

Raymond Beard's home had serious foundation problems because water seeped in through these big cracks in the basement.

But not anymore.

Volunteer Darryl Eklund's crew got to work patching things up today.

"It's a great feeling. It's a great feeling," Beard said. "They've got a lot of work to do and I feel sorry for them, but they're hammering at it at a pretty good pace. They're doing a good job."

Electricians also have a big job ahead of them. Their work began today and will go through next week.

Coffee drinkers did their part for Oprah's Big Give.

49 News staffers, like meteorologist Matt Miller, worked all day yesterday selling coffee at Hastings.

Tips and donations, along with 10 percent of café sales, went to Oprah's Big Give.

The effort brought in more than $166.

And we're not done yet.

Stop by for a slice of pie at the Copper Oven at Fairlawn Plaza one week from today, Thursday, April 24th.

From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. you can buy a slice of your favorite pie for $3.

Half of that money goes to Let's Help for Oprah's Big Give: Topeka.

Contestants on Oprah's Big Give TV show are just about finished. You can see the Oprah's Big Give finale this Sunday April 20th at 7 p.m. here on 49 abc.
