USD 501 overcomes teacher shortage

Topeka Public Schools has whittled its teacher shortage down to a handful of positions.

At the end of the school last year, USD 501 had 161 teacher positions open.

By July, the district cut that number to 30.

Now, with just 12 days left until school, the district has only five openings.

A spokesman for the district says they battle teacher shortages every year, and they always manage to fill the positions.
