2008 Primary Election Results

Note: This morning, the Shawnee County Election Commissioner indicated there was a problem with returns from 40 precincts. (See story.) Our results have been updated with the revised returns.

Jim Slattery has been declared the winner over Lee Jones in the race for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate; he has 69 percent of the vote. Slattery will go on to face Sen. Pat Roberts in the general election.

Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline lost his Republican primary race Tuesday. GOP challenger Steve Howe, a former assistant district attorney, received 60 percent of the vote in defeating Kline.

One of the closest races all night was the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. House of Representatives (2nd District). Unofficial results show that Lynn Jenkins won with 51 percent of the vote, against former Congressman Jim Ryun.

In the race for U.S. House (3rd District) Nick Jordan earned 76 percent of the votes to defeat Paul Showen, who had 24 percent.

In the race for the Republican nomination for Shawnee County District Attorney, Republican Eric Rucker easily defeated the incumbent Robert Hecht, 63 percent to 37 percent, and on the Democratic side, Chad Taylor handily ousted Jerry Berger, 70 percent to 30 percent. Rucker, a former Shawnee County Commissioner will face Taylor in the general election.

In the race for Shawnee County Commission 2nd District, incumbent Vic Miller defeated Owen Kennedy, 58 percent to 42 percent for the Democratic nomination. In the 3rd District, Mike Meier defeated two opponents, finishing with 50 percent of the vote. Parrish Stevens had 38 percent and Rita Rookstool had 12 percent in the race for the Republican nomination.
